Band recording for West Kelowna musicians

A practical plan for getting a full band recorded across a few focused sessions, with the studio a short drive across the lake.

Recording a band is a scheduling problem as much as a sound problem. Four people need to be in the same room, and not every part needs all four. A good plan gets the most from the 12 hours included with each song.

How a band session runs

StepWhat happens
Pre-productionTalk through arrangements and tempos, and share rough demos
Tracking dayDrums, bass and rhythm guitar or keys, tracked together or in layers
OverdubsLeads, extra guitars, keys, horns and backing vocals, one player at a time
VocalsLead vocals when everyone is rested and the tracks are solid
RevisionsUp to 3 rounds of notes on the mix, collected from the whole band

What the room offers a band

The live room is fully treated and holds a Pearl drum kit with Evans heads, along with keyboards, guitars, bass and a saxophone. Mics include Shure SM57s and SM58s, Sennheiser e604s, kick mics from AKG and Shure, and a Neumann TLM 102. The control room is fully treated, with Focal monitors, so you can listen back without leaving the building. See the full gear list.

Plan it before you arrive

  • Tell us the lineup and instruments so we can confirm the room works for your group.
  • Rehearse to a click if you plan to track to one, and agree on tempos.
  • Fresh drum heads and strings make a bigger difference than most people expect.
  • Choose one person to collect everyone's revision notes into a single list.

Questions

Can the whole band record live together?

Often, yes. Tell us the lineup and instruments ahead of time so we can confirm the room suits your group and plan microphones.

Do we need to book all the sessions up front?

No. A package sets the price, and you schedule sessions as the project moves, usually a few weeks apart.

What if one member can only come once?

That is common. Plan their part into a single visit and track everyone else around it.

Tell us what you're working on.

A song, an EP, a full album. Start with a conversation and we will map out the project together.
